The UTL Difference

The Underwater Torpedo League (UTL) is a fast-growing, team sports league based in Southern CA. Two, 5-man teams square off in the deep end of a pool and swim or pass a rubber torpedo until they shoot it into their opponent’s goal. To defend, players can tackle opponents or steal the torpedo and immediately take the offense. UTL is like hockey and football but played completely underwater. Because of our network and reach, UTL was sought out to run a new to the industry course training professional athletes this summer to prepare for their upcoming season in the NFL. We trained 8 players over 6 weeks and saw amazing results. Over the course of the same summer of 2018, the top U.S. Olympic Swim coaches came for a month and vetted UTL training. We are now training the Olympic Swim team for Tokyo 2020 and have trained Olympians from all over the world. This has led us into talks with members from USA Swimming about being a spectator sport in the Olympics.

"The Underwater Torpedo League program is so unique to myself being an NFL athlete. Every time I participated in the program I could see humongous strides from the time before. Prime's breathing techniques helped to succeed under water and translated t the football field. It taught me to remain calm under a lot of dudes. Thats the type of activities you need to perform at your highest level. The Underwater Torpedo League program is the standard!"

"As a professional mixed martial artist, I thought I knew what it was like to be in a high stress situation. Whenever I step into the cage, the person across from me is basically trying to kill me. That was before I started training with UTL, where I realized that I had another enemy; the water. Submerged under water my air source was not only taken away from me, but I also had a big ass NFL football player on my back trying to rip the torpedo out of my grip. Talk about a high stress situation there. After only a few sessions with UTL however, I came to find that the water is no longer my enemy—it is my friend. UTL is unlike any type of training I’ve ever done and I only wish I found these guys sooner. Translating it to fighting, not only am I maximizing my body’s potential to work using less oxygen, but I’m also training my mind to be stronger. Now if I find myself in a bad position in a fight, all I am thinking is, ‘This chokehold on land ain’t shit’. Try doing this underwater”.

- Ilima-Lei MacFarlane, Bellator Fighter

“I can’t wait to get back to San Diego and link back up with Prime and the crew. What an amazing program he and Rick have set up. It doesn’t matter your level of experience in the water. Prime and Rick will have you moving through water with ease and confidence in no time. I’ve gotten some of the best workouts with the UTL without having to put any force on my joints. Can’t think of a better way to stay in shape when I’m not on the football field. See you guys in the off season brothas”.

“I love that UTL is taking the idea of using the water, something that can be scary and intimidating to many, and using it as a tool to empower people to overcome their fears. Even as a professional swimmer when I played UTL I was challenged to find new limits. There is something powerful about learning to stay focused on an objective when your body wants to panic underwater. If you can learn to push past these barriers in the pool, you can learn to push to the same uncomfortable boundaries in other areas of life”.

- Caitlin Leverenz Smith, 2012 Olympic Bronze Medalist, Swimming

“I’m very excited about the Underwater Torpedo Program. Aquatic sports are among the most inclusive and healthiest activities possible. Prime’s vision of an athletic yet safe aquatic competition has the potential to one day be an Olympic sport!”
